Chenrezig

Chenrezig teaching

Chenrezig (Tibetan) or Avalokitesvara (Sanskrit), is the expression of pure compassion and loving kindness of the natural mind. He is most often known as one of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas, depicted in white with four arms, holding a lotus in his hands, in his peaceful aspect, and is also regarded by Tibetans as the patron of their country.

As wanderers in the six realms of existence, including ourselves, we cause so much suffering to ourselves and others by our actions motivated by the mind poisons. The practice of Chenrezig helps us to transform it into wisdom, so that our wisely directed life force becomes the cause not of suffering but of happiness, and helps not only us but all sentient beings.

The teaching is based on the commentary on the practice of the XVth Karmapa Khakyab Dorje on the practice of Chenrezig written by ThangTong Gyalpo.
