OM MA NI PE ME HUNG

“OM” represents the union of the five wisdoms and the essence of enlightened body, speech, and mind.
“MANI” means jewel;
“PEME” (or Padme) means lotus.
The Holder of the Jewel and Lotus is the noble Chenrezig.
“HUNG” is the mantra of enlightened activity that protects beings from the sufferings of the six realms.

The Karmapa’s commentary explains the Chenrezig meditation practice entitled Expanding the Space of Awareness for the Benefit of Beings.
This profound practice originates from Thangtong Gyalpo, a realized master of the 14th–15th century, who is regarded as an emanation of Noble Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara).
His life and enlightened activities clearly reflect this realization.

At the request of Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche, we perform this practice weekly at the Khyenkong Karma Tharjay Dharma Centre.
